Since the founding of the Department of Drama in 1974, the community has been served by remarkable leadership. Whether navigating the development of new curriculum and training programs or deftly guiding the department through extraordinary events like 9/11 and the Covid-19 shutdown, each Chair made their unique mark on the lives of Tisch Drama faculty, students, staff, studios, and alumni.
As we look back this anniversary year, several Chairs have shared memories and highlights of their tenure. (Louis Scheeder, who served as Interim Chair for two years has passed away, but his contribution to the department is well remembered.) See below for chronological conversations about each person's time in the Chair's seat.
