Dissertation

Title: Melodramatic Responses to Modernization across Turkey's Yesilcam cinema and Iran's FilmFarsi

Supervisor: Robert Stam and Ella Shohat

I work on transnational melodrama, particularly on the historical interconnections between Egyptian Golden Age melodrama, Turkey’s popular cinema (Yesilcam), and Iran’s pre-revolutionary popular Cinema (FilmFarsi).

Bio

Negar Taymoorzadeh is a PhD Candidate and adjunct instructor at New York University. She holds a B.A. in German Language and Literature and in Romance Studies, as well as a Magister degree in Education, Gender Studies, and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Hamburg (Germany). In 2014, she completed an M.A. in "Global Cinemas and the Transcultural" at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Negar has taught courses on cinema and popular culture at New York University, at the American University in Cairo, and at Bogazici University in Istanbul. Currently she is based in Germany.
