MIAP Research & Outreach

APEX promotes international collaboration and academic dialogue on film and media preservation in order to safeguard the world‘s audiovisual heritage. APEX is an opportunity for members of the international audiovisual archival community to exchange knowledge and skills in areas such as inspection and care of audiovisual materials, cataloging, metadata management, digitization, digital preservation, and access to collections.

Digital Preservation Outreach & Education (DPOE-N)

Digital Preservation Outreach & Education (DPOE-N) was created to enhance understanding of digital preservation by providing training opportunities in the long-term management and dissemination of cultural heritage materials in digital formats.

Orphan Film Symposium

The Orphan Film Symposium is a biennial gathering of archivists, scholars, preservationists, curators, technical experts, collectors, librarians, distributors, and media artists devoted to saving, studying, and screening neglected moving images. Regional Media Legacies

The Regional Media Legacies (RML) project is provided support for the next three years from the Robert D. L. Gardiner Foundation to train MIAP archivists on the management and care of film, video, audio, and digital media held across Long Island and New York City (Queens and Brooklyn, specifically).

Additional Collaborative Research Projects

Since its inception, MIAP has undertaken several collaborative research projects with generous funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Library of Congress National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program, the Andew W. Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and New York University's Center for Catastrophe Preparedness and Response.
